James Taylor – Gorilla: Quadio (Blu-ray Audio Disc)

James Taylor Gorilla: Quadio on Blu-ray Audio Disc. Transferred from the Original Analog Four-Track Master Tapes. Blu-ray with 192/24 Resolution Quadraphonic & Hi-Res Stereo Mixes.

Gorilla (1975) finds James Taylor embracing a more relaxed studio sound. Joined by a cast of collaborators—including David Crosby, Graham Nash, and Lowell George—Taylor delivers some of his most upbeat songs, highlighted by his 5 Hot 100 cover of “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” with then-wife Carly Simon singing harmony. Meanwhile, the sunny swing of “Mexico” is offset by moments of quiet beauty like “Wandering,” where Taylor’s flawless fingerpicking shines.

Quadraphonic sound, or 4.0 surround sound, utilizes four audio channels connected to four speakers positioned at the corners of a listening space. The multi-tracked audio is mixed dimensional, immersing the listener in an expansive soundscape.
